Bird Brain
For a long time birds were considered non intelligent creatures. Nowadays, we know some species, like corvids and parrots, have a high neuron density in areas of the brain related to higher cognitive functions.
For this project I sculpted a capuchin monkey and a raven head with polymer clay that I later painted and photograph to use as a base for the main illustration.
Original idea and layout, Fernando Baptista; Graphic and art, Monica Serrano; Research and brain anatomy, Mesa Schumacher. National Geographic, February 2018.
